  • When To Use a Blow Torch or Heatgun for Vehicle Wraps

We’ve had several questions lately about the appropriate use of a heatgun and a blowtorch for vehicle wraps. While each heating method is effective, some situations call for
preference of one over the other. Here are a few tips that we can give on a
    general basis.

Torch:  A torch is definitely a lot quicker, but with quickness comes the element of danger because it’s a lot easier to burn the film. However, if the torch is used properly by using short bursts of heat waving over the film, then the process can be pretty quick and easy.

    EXCEPTION:
Never use a torch on matte films. It makes them glossy, therefore no longer
    creating that matte finish.

Heat Gun: The heat gun will produce the same effect, but has a less element for danger. It doesn’t heat up the film near as quick like a blowtorch does, however it does get pretty hot. In the case of matte films, this is your better option because it will take longer to gloss the film. That doesn’t mean several seconds will be ok- short bursts over the film just as with a torch. It will
take 4 to 5 seconds to create a gloss finish on matte, compared to 2 seconds.

These are just a couple of tips. As mentioned above, each situation is different so make sure that you practice regularly and test out either method before using on the full
wrap. If you have a specific instance that you’d like to ask, submit your
questions here or find us on Facebook where you can ask a network of installers
    for their advice.
